Why Wearables @ Hopkins?
Innovations are often the result of accidental collisions between seemingly disconnected disciplines to create a whole new function.1 The current pace of technological disruption makes chance encounters too risky to leave to chance. Enter the Wearables @ Hopkins initiative, which deliberately connects Hopkins experts from across the wearables ecosystem.
Step 1: Define wearables landscape, then inventory assets
- Vertical integration is when the supply chain and distribution channel of a company are integrated and owned by that company2
- Apple is a fully vertically integrated company because hardware design, software development, and product distribution are handled in-house
- The diagram below applies the concept of vertical integration to wearables in an academic medical center context
- This diagram is a means to inventory our expertise and research acumen to optimize the utilization of those assets across the Johns Hopkins enterprise
Step 2: Create program to enable collaboration
- Bi-monthly meetings, target inaugural event in Fall of 2024
- In-person, 1-hour duration on East Campus location with refreshments (virtual option available)
- Agenda features two presenters followed by Q&A
- High-quality content, minimal-to-no editorial input other than thematic
- Hopkins-only presenters to start, non-Hopkins participants welcome
Step 3: Attract, engage and retain audience
- Optimize event marketing to drive attendance
- Leverage automated email campaign and website (You are here!) to draw audience
- Recruit presenters for inaugural and upcoming events
